Role Summary

Lead the design, development and qualification of innovative defence products while managing a team of engineers. Drive projects from concept to production by ensuring technical excellence, timely execution, cost optimization and cross-functional coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple R&D projects and ensure timely achievement of project milestones
  • Plan, prioritize and allocate work to the engineering team while monitoring progress.
  • Review designs, engineering calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Guide prototype development, testing, qualification.
  • Coordinate closely with the Technical Director on project planning, technology roadmap and strategic initiatives.
  • Work with Purchase, Manufacturing, Quality and Testing teams to ensure smooth execution.
  • Drive design improvements, value engineering, cost reduction & process optimization.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of innovation, ownership and learning.
  • Participate in customer interactions, technical presentations and project reviews

Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8-10 years of experience in product development, precision engineering or defence R&D.
  • Knowledge of machine design, manufacturing processes, materials and engineering standards.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks/ SolidEdge, AutoCAD and engineering documentation.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong leadership, planning and project management abilities.
  • Excellent technical decision-making and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in vendor development and engagement.
  • Understanding of product costing, value engineering & lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to balance technical performance, manufacturability & business objectives.
  • Knowledge of FMEA, DFMEA, Design Reviews and Project Planning tools.
